Travel: Individual arrival to Szombathely (Hungary) and individual departure from Koprivnica (Croatia). Optional return transfer from Koprivnica back to Szombathely is available.

An evening stroll through the historic old town of Szombathely will set the mood for your journey.
From Szombathely, you reach Ják via Nárai. The famous 13th-century Romanesque Catholic church is a must-see and one of the most important cultural and tourist attractions in the county. Continuing south, you arrive in Körmend, the town of the Batthyány family, with its landmark, the princely Batthyány Castle. A visit to the Dr László Batthyány-Strattmann Museum, the castle, and its park is highly recommended. From Körmend, admire the River Rába, stop at the Miród Spring in Kemestaródfá – a famous Marian pilgrimage site – and visit another Batthyány family castle in Csákánydoroszló. The day ends in Szentgotthárd, where the Church of the Assumption (a former Cistercian abbey), the Baroque garden, and the St. Gotthard Spa & Wellness are notable attractions.
Today’s ride takes you into the heart of Őrség National Park, one of Hungary’s most charming and unspoiled regions. You cycle through gentle hills, peaceful villages, past wooden bell towers, and traditional farms reflecting centuries-old rural life. Along the way, enjoy soft forest paths, lush meadows, and scenic landscapes shaped by volcanic hills. Arrival in Őriszentpéter, the “capital” of Őrség, where you can relax and soak up the region’s peaceful rhythm.
Today you continue west along the legendary EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail, following the former East-West border. The route passes through quiet border forests, wetlands, and small Slovenian villages, offering a fascinating blend of nature and history. After crossing into Slovenia, the landscape gradually opens towards the Lendava wine region. The day ends in the charming town of Lendava, known for its vineyards, cultural diversity, and observation tower.
A beautiful and varied cycling day begins with a gentle climb to the Lendava Vinarium observation tower, where you are rewarded with a 360° panorama over Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, and Austria. From here, follow the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail through quiet villages and green landscapes towards Lenti. A short detour to Lovászi brings you to the Iron Curtain Museum and the original border bunker system, bringing the Cold War history of this region to life. The route continues along the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail to Kerkaszentkirály and connects with the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail through the Mura floodplains. A short detour brings you directly to the River Mura before the day ends in Letenye.
Today’s stage takes you deeper into Croatia along the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail, following the historic border along the rivers Mura and Drava. Before reaching Legrad, a short detour leads to the spectacular confluence of the Mura and Drava, one of the region’s most impressive natural landmarks. Continue south through tranquil farmland and small villages, with the option of a relaxed detour to Lake Šoderica, a popular swimming and recreation spot for locals. The day ends in the lively town of Koprivnica.

The cycling season along this section of the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail runs from May to October. During this period you can generally expect pleasant cycling conditions.
Typical daytime temperatures range between 20–30°C, depending on the month. Spring and early autumn usually offer the most comfortable temperatures for cycling. Summers can be warm, especially in the Pannonian Plain, but the route often follows rivers and shaded countryside roads.
Rain showers are possible at any time of the year, so bringing a lightweight rain jacket is recommended.
The tour has a moderate difficulty level with five cycling stages through plains and gentle hills. Daily distances are about 45–68 km, with mixed terrain including cycle paths, some gravel sections, and occasional public roads.
Participants stay 6 nights in selected partner accommodations along the route. Travelers can choose between Basic, Classic, or Comfort categories depending on their preferred level of comfort.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for the entire duration of the trip. Participants are responsible for arranging their own valid travel insurance before departure.

For this EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail cycling week, you start in the western Hungarian city of Szombathely and cycle five mostly moderate stages – initially along the HungarianAustrian border in a southwesterly direction towards Slovenia. In the picturesque town of Lendava, the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail changes direction, turning southeast to follow the great rivers Mura and Drava. Along the untouched river landscapes on the Hungarian Slovenian and later Hungarian-Croatian border, the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail – which here coincides with the new long-distance route Amazon of Europe Bike Trail – leads you to the destination of your cycling week, the tranquil town of Koprivnica on the banks of the Drava. Although continuous efforts are being made to improve the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail and its infrastructure, you should expect a mix of beautiful cycle paths, occasional gravel sections, and some public roads. Nevertheless, you will be rewarded with breathtakingly diverse landscapes and the warm hospitality typical of slow-travel destinations.
